A lifetime of ‘living the life’ has ensured that Heather Garside knows rural and outback Australia in all its beauty, ruggedness and hardship. Having grown up on a cattle property in Central Queensland and now running a beef and grain farm with her husband and son, Heather’s first-hand experience of life on the land brings an absolute authenticity to her writing.
While Heather is new to Clan Destine Press and earns the prestige of being selected as the publishing company’s first rural romance author, she has actually been writing historical romance novels on and off for 30 years. Now, with the popularity of rural romance, Heather is pleased that her preferred genre has finally come into vogue.
Heather can barely remember a time when she didn’t want to write – she penned her first poem at the age of seven and at eleven began writing a story called Lost in the Bush! At 18 she had a serious attempt at a novel, which she self-published six years later. And then life got in the way and she traded her pen for a stockwhip. After a long break, she resumed writing in 1998 and published two rural historicals in 2007: The Cornstalk and its sequel, A Hidden Legacy.
